I have a maxpect 420r light unit and i have been using my preprogrammed settings. I have experienced bleaching of some spses in certain areas especially my staghorns. As a process of elimination through all perameters(ensuring all are fine). Dosing for pests. I have only one option left and that is it must be the light. I have reduced my light intensity down to approx 50 percent on white and sixty blue. With a phase in and out at either side of the daily light cycle. I am hoping this will help. Advice would be appreciated

    Add one or two T5's

LED provide a direct light whilst T5 give off a more general reflective light and provide light to areas shaded by direct lighting.

@mandarinman , I too noticed your issues with our LEDS, Noticed quite a bit of bleaching, then toned down to 90% blues and 80% white with not much change.

I've now found the sweet spot running only on 80% blues and 60% whites and I see an amazing difference, tips are all colouring up beautifully.

Forgot what I first posted :p

But if you put a broom handle under the LED fixture you will notice a large shadow. The closer the broom handle is to the LED the darker the shadow. The same experiment with T5 produces a much lighter shadow.

IMO we want to get high PAR so we position the LED as close as possible to the water surface as possible. This may cause shadowing for the base of biggish corals. T5 provide a more general light, with uv, and seems to not have the same symptoms.
