The “Tiger-Tail” coral beauty is an interesting specimen of Centropyge bispinosa that was collected around Mauritius. Like the Paracheilinus piscilineatus we posted about yesterday, this West Indian Ocean reef fish was imported by Yadokariya of Japan. It is unclear whether the Tiger-Tail coral beauty angelfish is a singular specimen of an unusual fish, whether it represents the appearance of C. bispinosa at the extreme edge of it’s natural range, or it is also possible that this coral beauty has an interesting genetic history with some crossbreeding with related pygmy angelfish species. In addition to the beautiful purple and yellow striping of the tail and posterior region of the body, the tiger-tail coral beauty also has a pronounced blue-black spot above a brilliant yellow pectoral fin. The tiger-tail coral beauty is a truly beautiful fish and we thank Yadokariya once again for sharing their great pictures with us.
