    Hi,

I have been reading thru all the marine itch articles and links, but i have failed to see how this develops in a tank?
Say for instance, all livestock are in the tank....white spot free etc etc

then all of a sudden, one fish gets stressed and develops the white spot?
Does that mean all fish have this parasite on them, just needs stress or poor water quality to trigger it?
Is there any reefsafe meds that really eradicates or greatly assists with this or is a Fresh water dip and Quarantine the best option?

If this specific issue on white spot has already been discussed, please post link;)

    THnks

from what i know, WS is there in the DT in the form of cysts etc and they can attach to healthy fish, but a healthy fish has a protective layer stopping the worm attaching to the skin, and when stressed this layer depletes. but after a few weeks with no host the cysts can go dormant or die

So all fish carry the parasite, but once health is compromised the cyst "activates"?

i wont say they carry it, some do and can, but i would say that it is possibly present in most tanks.

you can add vitamins to the food etc to keep the fish tip top

So it is something that every marine fish keeper will have to deal with some time in the hobby.Best thing to keep them healthy is too eat as much as possible?or will over feeding have negative effect aswell?

to clarify, for a QT i just need fresh salt water mix/nsw,make sure the tank is proper temp and need a powerhead in ther?
Better to do 80% water change evry day or alternate days?
What meds should/can i throw in the QT?
    should i run a skimmer?
    no substrate
before i put him in ther QT,should i give him a RO water dip for 4-5 minutes?

im thinkin my baby regal tang has white spot, cant get a proper pic of the guy.

and for how long should the fish be in ther?

    QT concerns:
I suspect my regal tang has white spot,so to be sure im going to QT him.
Do use new NSW for it?
do i only need heater, powerhead and small pvc pipe for hiding?
do i need to run a skimmer?
How often do i need to do water changes?
Should i RO dip him for few minutes before going into the QT?
what meds can i throw in the QT while he is occupying it?
how long must he stay in ther?

You will get a lot of different opinions but this worked for me:

PVC pipes for hiding, heater, pump, some kind of filter media for bacteria to grow (most meds will kill them).
I don't like copper, so I use hypo salinity (has worked on a yellow tang and regal tang). You drop the salinity to 1,010, over a couple of days (don't do it all at once). Keep it in hypo salinity for two weeks, then start raising the water back to normal salinity. Its best to use a refracto meter, since a hydro meter isn't that accurate. You wont do to many water changes, since you will replace a lot of water in the tank to change the salinity anyways!

NB!!! Check the ammonia when you use meds, since it will kill the bacteria in the water. I lost a regal when I started my tank, because of very high levels!!!

Like a canister filter? I used that in my first QT, worked fine. If you are going to set it up now, you will definitly see ammonia rising, don't lose your regal thanks to that, like I did mine. Check it closely.

use water from your tank, reduces stress. no need to cycle as u will need to do a WC every 2nd or 3rd day. rather add the new water to the DT

if they say its reef safe then treat the DT, it might also kill the cysts hiding in the gravel, speak to frans and see what he suggests

I am with keyaam on this...dont move the regal, you will create more stress. Think about it this way , if yo have flu, what is better..staying in bed or driving from pharmacy to pharmacy.

You can add microbelift straight to the DT
