Mantis shrimps, etc

    At the LFS...they have a stunning mantis shrimp. Im thinking about getting it...but I know it tends to kill everything around it. Any advise or help pls?

    I have currently :

    1 x maroon clown
    2 x 4 stripe damsels
    2 x blue damsels
    1 x bicolour chromi
    1 x porcelain crab
    1 x cleaner shrimp
    Various hermits and starfish, snails.
    1 x green bubbletip nenny.

    If I was you I'd read Lanzo and Warr's threads on their mantis tanks. Read all you can before buying this animal please. Don't buy on impulse because it's beautiful, you'll be sorry ;)

    Yeah thats why I wana know bout it before I get it. A guy bought sum livestock at another LFS not too long ago...and there was a mantis hiding amongst the goodies...it got into his tank and almost killed everything. He wasnt too impressed.

    If you get a "larger" species mantis, say goodbye to all crabs, shrimps and snails.

    The nenny and fish will only be under attack when the Mantis gets hungry.

    Also find out if the Mantis is a clubber or spearer ?

    Its a stunning green one. With a hint of red along the edges. It follows my finger along the glass then runs out and attacks it.

    Basically you will need a species tank. If you put it in a community tank you may just end up with a species tank.

    Then ill leave it. Iv waited so long for my tank to mature to where it is...not gona go and damage it.

    LMAO. I am sort of....the GFs nano at my place has two small mantis shrimps. They prob 1cm each.
