Yes you read correctly I am looking for a mantis shrimp and am willing to pay shipping.

But I am specifically looking for a Gonodactylus smithii aka Purple-Spotted Mantis

I have attached a link with pictures.

If anyone has one that they no longer want (for whatever reasons ;) ) send him it my way, even if it is another species send me a pic and I may just take it off your hands.

BTW yes I am mad

Waynan, you setting up a species tank? If so, some pics please.

Yes I am, it will probably be one of those 20l AquaH2O tanks, pics will coming.

how often does someone come across a Mantis? Am i lucky to get one on my liverock? From what i've seen LiveRock seems to sit for quite awhile in LFS..so wouldnt the LFS spot it? do they appear almost instanteously after gettin into the tank?

If i do get one Waynan, he is all yours..

I can give you at least 100 pistol shrimps.

Some people get them some don't in a batch of 200kg of LR I did not get one, but my first one I got with 10kg of LR...

Thanks for keeping me in mind dude

Why don't you want pistol shrimps, they are mostly harmless as far as I know... but alas I want mantis, thanks for the offer

I sometimes get them with new live rock. If I get one in the future I’ll keep it aside for you. They make fascinating species tanks.

I hope you find one Waynan. Hope you have a tiled floor as well... Those AquaH20 tanks don't seem to be the strongest...

Thanks guys, Oh and  Rory.
I have actually managed to get one, will be collecting it tomorrow.
But if you find any let me know anyway I am sure I can find them a good home.

Waynan, You have inspired me to also keep one, so if you guys come across some more, pls let me know.

Now that is good news, you won't regret it...

if they such serious boxers..how do you transport and handle them? Think i would lie in bed awake all nite waitin for some mantis to crawl out the tank and bust my jaw... no thank you for the mantis..

Maybe we should all get Mantis tanks and then on weekends we can chuck them together in the same tank and see who wins.

I take it they will readily accept Mollies and FW shrimp (for food that is)?

They will accept it, but you should not feed it to them as the consumption of these can/will lead to kidney failure... Rather feed a defrosted shrimp, they will take prepared foods.

Acording to "A PocketExpert Guide Marine Invertebrates" RL Shimek, mantis can/should be kept in acrylic tank as they can not shatter these.

As far as I know AquaH20 tanks are not acrylic, they are bent glass.
