I finaly caught my mantis shrimp, who out there REALLY wants this little critter?

I already have one person who wouldn't mind dropping him into his tank for his other mantis to play WWE with, however I thought I would give it a fighting chance for somone who might want to keep him/her before taking that step...

Dibs on for person with the highest enthusiasm , sort of like an unofficial auction maybe?

Hey Jaques, Jaco is just around the corner from me and he is sending some stuff to Frans, so if he giving you that stuff he could give you the Mantis on your way past in JHB...

Hey, you finally caught him. Glad it worked out for you.
Did you do it as I suggested?

I tried almost everything, I put it is a little bit of salt water, just on it's own. Then in the same water with some food. then put loads of water in the container (poystyrene box I have), then gave it some more food. Then tried setting a trap with inverting the top of a bottle with food in it, at 2am last night I gave up and went to bed and went at it again after work today. It showed it's face a few times but wasn't really intereted in coming out, then I inverted the rock and held it just barely in the water, then showed it to the food and still just poked it's head out but no go.

I eventually got a skewer stick and poked gently in the hole but the way I was holding the rock it just snapped before I even got the stick in properly, after that happened I could see it much clearer but couldn't get to it so I just tried breaking the rock further, considering it was already broken and it snapped easily. The tunnel walls had made it very brittle in so many places, then it was just a case of pushing it off the one remaining pice of rock and that was that.

I considered the RO idea but after teh rock broke I just went at it thinking the the worst case is I would have a bunch of frag rock opposed to one big rock, so I had to rethink the scaping a little with the pieces opposed to one big rock but it worked out OK in the end - and I don't have a mantis in my tank anymore which is 1st prize for me.

Lets just say that after going to bed after 2am empty handed, and having to be up at 6am for work - I am totalled at teh moment...running on fumes ;)

It was a worthwhile excersize though, I enjoyed it, as frustrating as it was.
