From my personal experiences only i fed the tank and because thr manderin is normally a bottom feeder found that all the other fish took the food so what i did that worked quite well was i took a large syringe with airline connected to it i sucked up frozed brine shrimp and squirted some right in front of his nose but at the same time i fed the rest of the fish at the other end of the tank, hope it helps

In general, they need live food to survive and not starve. Specifically copepods. I highly recommend that if you don't have a mature tank with ideally a refuguim, you either find a way to provide small live food or find him a new home. It's heartbreaking to watch one starve.

They are very difficult to keep and the best bet is an ample pod population. I have one and he ignored all frozen food for the first two years. Recently I saw him going for some lobster eggs though.
