    Hi
Is a mandarin the pretty fish with a pattern on it? I tried researching but cant see nice pics. Does 1 need a sump to keep it eating? I read it only eats copods if im not mistaken and cheato to maintain lots of copods. I dont have a sump yet can i put cheato in display or mandarins a difficult fish to keep. Also do copods come out off the water? I put my heater on last night and this morning noticed lots of tiny white creatures walking all over the top part of the heater which is above water.

A mandarin is an extremely difficult fish to keep in that it only eats small live crustaceans as you've correctly said. The tank needs to be at least a year old and over 400l with plenty of rockwork. There may be no other fish such as wrasse competing for the same food source. I've personally tried to keep them on a number of occasions but have now given up as I feel that they are too difficult to keep in captivity. Some people have had success though.

They are stunning fish and really are very difficult to keep happy! Something to work towards with a much bigger tank and a few years experience!
