container with stone ballast, filled with live shrimp gut loaded with phyto lid with irrigation connector in top. once filled with hatched shrimp, capsules etc. the shrimp follow light and leave detris behind. i put one in tank in morning and one in evening. i turn off pumps for half hour after putting in tank.. as the fidh get to know where the food comes from it becomes feeding station!

i will do that tomorrow ,but it is really easy. i have just spent the last half hour watching the smallest of the three mandarins feeding on day old brineshrimp at a rate of about one to two a second! it has this incredulous look ,but it hasnt moved away from the container!

Its easy by the way . i took an empty 8.4 brightwells tub and drilled a three mm hole in the lid and then inserted an irrigation connector into the hole. Then place a smallish stone inside to weigh it down. place uour newly hatched and enriched artemia in the container after straining of course and then top up to almost the top of container with tank water. put lid on and submerge in tank. squeeze the lid repeatedly until no bubbles come out and place in spot of choice in tank. the shrimps see the light and exit over time allowing mandarin time to munch them. This can also be done with eggs that have been aerated for 24 hours. they will then hatch and exit into dt. the container must be well rinsed between uses

Firstly will the egg shells not pollute the water and secondly what do you use to enrich the brine shrimp? Seems like a fantastic idea, always worry about my mandarin not getting enough food.

The egg shells stay in the container! Thats the fun part! To enrich brine shrimp u get a product called aminomega pop a drop in yhe water you have your brine shrimp in and leave it for an hour before straining prior to placing in container. this being if you are using hatched brine shrimp. if you want to use eggs i would decapsulate them. you do this by taking a small scoop of brine shrimp eggs and put it in one of those small seethru pill bottles with a tsp of plain bleach and a tsp ro water. shake around for a few minutes till the eggs turn light yellowy orange. rinse under tap in brine shrimp sieve and then pour a cup of water with a drop of prime in it through eggs in sieve. rinse into container with some tank water . (ask if you dont understand my gibberish).
