only possible problem could be small pieces of cheato entering the skimmer pump. Getting caught up in the impeller.

Can you add another piece of glass, on top of the current short divider between skimmer and cheato to make an over the top divider?

If @makharold agrees to chaeto pieces being a problem for skimmer pump then I suggest placing chaeto inside an open top fish net basket and allowing water to flow over the top as well as through. This will allow pod creatures to be released into water column as well as trap stray chaeto pieces.

Doesn't seem to be any problem with the cheato so far as there seems to be enough flow through the sump that it can't really flow backwards but I am concerned about the height of the bubbles in the skimmer it seems to collect quite a bit in the neck of the skimmer it does collect in the collection cup but some stays in the neck .maybe the skimmer needs to be deeper it's a bubblemagus curve 5 it's currently @ 210Mm deep

I believe the instructions on this skimmer is fairly brief, but it may assist if you have a manual. Do you have the manufacturer manual on this skimmer?

From the information on the net, 210mm is shallow for this skimmer.

Ok just read the manual for the first time and the instructions r a bit bleek however it does say the diving depth of the pump is +-35cm .then there's an other pice of paper with some bad Chinese English says "suggest water level for exterior of skimmer around 25-27cm" .didn't see that before darn

I cant express enough how important the correct installation and priming of a skimmer is. I have a Redsea Prizm skimmer. I was not happy with the amount of load it was extracting so i read the online user manual and found that much of its installation and configuration was incorrect as i was given this skimmer. After ensuring the water level was correct and maintained within the minimum level and much needed priming, the skimmer started working very well.

Cant you raise sump water level?

I could but I need to first get a one way valve for my return cause when the powers off the sump almost fills up so if I raise the level now it will flood

By this you are refering to the return from your sump to your dt, as in the "in" flow?

Mine did it too until a drilled a hole into the return pipe at the water level. Once it sucks air the flow will stop.

In my experience , a rigid check valve was too strong for my 1800l/h pump And a ball valve will only work Iif you are present during the power outage.

then you got a setup issue with your return pipe.
Post a picture so that we can see.

Think I'll be needing a deeper sump check the last pic is with the return pump off and I have to remove the fans .the overflow pipe and the return r at the same height so I think if I put a one way valve on the return the water will still drain down the over flow

I want to establish whether or not you increased the sump level today by adding more water to it?

Sorry can't pay complete attention now as I am preparing for larvae collection tonight.

What does your overflow look like inside the tank?

What size return pump are you running?
