Hey Guys, I have a Magnificent Fox face that has become progressively thin over the last few months. I can even see his skeleton at the moment. :(

He continues to eat aggressively (and I feed him alot!) and shows no visible external signs of any of the common parasites that we all know to look out for.

None of the other tank inmates are showing anything similar so it’s either not infectious or their immune systems are stronger than his. I'm talking months of possible exposure here.

My view is that its probably some form of internal parasite,:001_unsure: like a worm or something:idea:. Excuse my ignorance if I am talking absolute rubbish:stupid:, but I would appreciate the guru's view on a possible diagnosis.

Once diagnosed I will probably need to do some research on a course of action or get some advice on the forum on what I could do.

It pains me to watch this guys fade away, I feel helpless:(

OK,sounds like an internal worm of sorts, prob a tape worm
Internal worms are charactorised by the host doing the following
1.Eating like a pig and wasting away.Colour will also normally take a knock
2.Treat his food or him in a sep tank with a dewormer and it should sort it out.(you can use pure Praziquantel you can get from your pharmacy or the Sera med Tremazol that has Prazi in it).
You will see him the worm come out in his faecal matter, some of them are huge...

Thanks, If I treated him along side his fellow tank inmates would the Praziquantel do them any harm ?

It could be Nematodes (round worms) or Cestodes (tape worms) or gill fluks in the intestines. FW dip will not help in this instance. You say the fish is eating well so i would recommend Praziquantel (Droncit). mix 250 mg/100 g of food. Feed for about 2 weeks.

Flappy recommended treatment in a separate tank. I agree. Prazi is reef safe though but will kill tube worms etc.

Yes,if you have inverts best to treat Prazi seperate. If not then it will not harm healthy fish if dosed correctly, you will just deworm them.
I deworm all new arrivals as part of the QT procedure as a standard
You will need to script for Biltricide from your pharmacy(Schedule 4) this is pure prazi.
Droncit you can get from your local Vet.
Also look for Sera Tremazol, also got Prazi in it.
I find a bath with Tremazol to be pretty effective.
After the bath the worms will take about 2 days to come out.
Fish normally reocver pretty fast after this.
