Hi guys, got a little octopus today, I will let Sean K amuse you guys with how it was caught, but neverless, I got it in a drum with air pump, will get a pico for it tomorrow, but what size should I get, it is the size of a fingernail.

Also when I put LR in, I will never see it again cause it will go into hiding, so I was thinking of getting a stone or something, covering it with crushed coral or something, give me ideas. Maybe some zoas I got I will gooi in there, but I want nice blue lighting for it.

Basically I will do like daily water changes from my DT, something like that,

This should become a very interesting topic.

This guy will grow allot, so a pico would not be a long term solution.

A few of the guys got very interested when I told them about my tank.
They might want to put one in our office, but they want an octopus :)

Will see how your setup turns out! Best of luck!

We actually had nothing to do with it..........

My Brother in law, remember the big ou, they were fishing while I was spearing, and they called me cause they were stuck, or the fish was only coming very slowly........I didn't feel like swimming there cause it was far and deep, so I said just keep pulling gently......it slowly kept coming.
Along comes Oom Koeks, while he is getting goggled up, we watching from the rocks, it's right under them now in the deep coming up.........the place was full with guys who want to see what fish it is.................probably been on for 15-20mins at least.............they pull it up and have landed a camping chair!!!!:lol:

They got the camping chair on the deck now, and the kids checked this little okkie in there and rescued it!!!!

Of all the things I have heard collected or caught, never ever will anyone beat an okkie from a camping chair:lol:

Guys I need sugestions, I was thinking like a 30l tank, start adding substrate slowly from my DSB to use as substrate in the okkie pico.

    Problems I have,
This tank needs to be sealed 100%, so I was thinking putting a net over, maybe with elastic or something,
This net means lighting is a problem, unless it will shine through. I would of like to add some local zoas or something.
I am scared of pumps as it will climb in, could I run it only on those air stones and air pumps, unless I cover the pumps too.
I will do water changes every second day or so, so no need to run much filtration.

I think you missed a section...

"Even the smallest octopus needs a large tank and plenty of filtration. A 50-gallon tank is the smallest suitable for the dwarf species."

Will put a mesh over the tank, and then tape that on.

I've read somewhere (can't find the link now), that an Octo won't climb over artificial turf (i think it's called astro turf). Soo put some of this around the rim of it's tank, apparently works.

Hey there bud .... Awesome little bugger ... Years back I had 2 of these fascinating creatures .... Dont make the mistake I made and keep more than 1 .... Their intelligence will bring upon the demise of the weaker one ... Mine had the brains to actually create an ambush of rocks to fall and trap the other by "starving" himself and placing the food in a place and waiting for the other to come for it then toppling the rocks to try and kill it ..... Covering was easy ... I used glass ontop the tank like cover slips ... nice 6mm or 10mm clear glass for the light to penetrate and had extra pieces just to give a bit of weight so the couldn't lift it ... Make it fit snug or even overlap .... All the best with this project .....
