macro alges and fish

    does anyone know with certanty if macro alges grow in a reeftank with out fish in it

    Yes they do.
    Saw on Crispin's tank a lot of nice looking macro algae when his tank was still cycling. He cycled his tank a lot longer than 6 weeks, and there multiple different type of things started growing by themselves.
    Also most sponges and algae will start growing by themselves, depending on the quality of the live rock. And how alive it is by the time you put it in your tank.

    When he intoduced his Tangs, they had a feast.
