Macro Algae going sexsual

Firstly, the macro you have to worry about is Caulepra, not Chaeto.

Generally goes sexual if it is under threat or not been kept well pruned.

Haven't heard of the 24/7 lighting story ??

Acts of sexual reproduction can cause a sudden and potentially dangerous release of accumulated and manufactured compounds that can harm and kill other life forms in the system, including whole tank wipeouts. This can be avoided by using constant lighting and consistent pruning or predation to skirt the three to six month life cycle.
Caulerpa has been well studied and documented to leach numerous noxious or toxic exudations, much more than most popular macro algae.

Martin - keep the lights in for 24/7, CAN REDUCE the chances of caulerpa "going sexual". It just means that the cualerpa will then constantly derive it's energy to grow, and "building blocks" from photosynthesis, instead of NEEDING to "go sexual" to reproduce....

things can decide to switch to sexual reproduction under times of stress. Too much light can be just as bad as too little/incorrect lighting in terms of inducing stress.
