Lyretail Hogfish

    I got a Lyretail Hogfish yesterday is it reef safe and what is his general behaviour?

    Drk - these guys usually eat hermit crabs and starfish/snails.... IT SHOULD behave, and should be "reef safe", but not invertebrate safe.....

    Hey dirk this is a nice feesh but maybe a good idea to research the fish before you buy it next time as you could get something that will chomp you other feesh and the LFS might just say Na man that fish is safe.

    I know the fish is fish save but the LFS told me it is reef save just want to make sure. But i have a fish only tank also if needed to move.

    good advice to research before taking it home, even if it means putting a deposit on a fish and going to the shop again to fetch it later. I often take a hand book with me to LFS's as I am prone to implulse buying and reading up on a beautiful new fish is always a good idea, or else I use http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/onsale.asp?did=1

    as quick reference pages, again often checking them from my phone while in a shop :)

    Mine LFS has and in my opinion every reputable LFS should have a fish base book for customers to use
