One of the largest complaints people have about reverse osmosis deionization units is the amount of waste water they produce. Usually the waste water can be stored and recycled for other uses such as watering plants or lawns. However, not all of us (that includes me), have the capabilities to save the waste water.

So if you want to keep your RODI water for the great things it does for your saltwater tank, but want to cut the waste, here’s the solution. Did I mention it had another great side benefit as well?

    Video is available.

But for those that cannot see the video, basically you remove your current inline to the top canister. And move that to the new canister. The waste out of new canister goes to in of old canister. Both filtered outlets joins with Y splitter into you RO line.

    Simple
Basically you double up on the filmtec membrane. As you now have 2 in place.
Just need enough pressure else you might need to add a booster pump.

    yes, double membrane

actually just double up on filtration space or surface area.
Should also work is you split the line going into old cannister into 2 with Y and have both cannisters in parallel configuration. Now its is in Series.

Just bear in mind that since the second membrane is now filtering the concentrated waste water out of the first, it wont last as long and will need to be replaced sooner. Considering that waste water has normally double if not more the TDS of the tap it would mean that the secondary membrane will last half as long as the first one.

That is why setting it up in parallel would be so nice. double the volume delivers.

Even in series, and it delivers more than now would be great.
