Noobie question isn't a pistol shrimp the things we try to get rid of in out tanks. Don't they make that clicking noise and chow our fish?
The reason I ask is that I wanted to get a pairing to but was worried about the shrimp.

The pistol shrimps make the clicking noise yes but won't chow your fish.
The one you don't want in your tank is called a Mantis shrimp. They'll eat your LS.

Thanks for the explanation thats very cool! @wildonpets has a shrimp gobby not sure if that's what you want. Otherwise put in a order they excellent at getting what you ask for.

Pixius, Visdam has a beautiful Yellow Watchman. Nice big one. After I lost my first Yellow Watchman, I bought one from him 2 weeks ago. And as I reported in another thread, It paired with my pistol of nearly 2 years old within the first 10min of adding him to my tank. (This was my 2nd successfull pairing). It is very important though, to buy the correct Goby. The gobies that pair with great success with the Tiger Pistol shrimp is the Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) and the Pink-spotted Watchman goby (Cryptocentrus leptocephalus). You can also try the Barber pole goby and the clown goby, but they are of the smallest gobies available.

The symbiotic relationship of these guys are amasing. I have a book "Q&A - Questions and Answers - The Marine Aquarium by Dr Ashley Ward, wherin he explains the relationship between Goby and Shrimp. They apparently find a partner very quick. Gobis use their eysight to look out for shrimps, whilst the shrimps seek out partners by attuning to the fish's smell. Why are they living together?: Each of the partners has an Archilles heel that is compensated for by the other. The weakness of the shrimp is its poor eyesight, which makes it a potentially easy meal for predtors. On the other hand the goby has excellent eyesight and is able to keep a lookout for dangr on the shrimp's behalf, but is far less capable than its crustacean housemate of excavating its own burrow. Both survive long with these living arrangements than they would alone. HOW DOES THE GOBY WARN THE SHRIMP OF IMPENDING DANGER?: If a predator gets too close for comfort, the goby will reverse into the burrow refuge. It also communicates to the shrimp by wiggling its tail. The shrimp picks up the warning through its antennae - whenever it leaves the burrow it keeps one of its feelers in constant contact with the fish, ready to duck if theres danger!
Now isnt this amazing! Nature just keeps me in awe! And here we as humans think we are just the Bee's Knees!

@Helga saw your thread and thats part of the reason I decided to get a pair
I got my pistol from my brother in law. He got it as a hitchhiker almost 2 years ago and has been living in his sump. Its a green coloured one so I'm unsure about the specific species.
As for the goby, I decided to go with a Diagonal bar prawn goby as they are also known to pair up well with pistols.
Goby is dripping as we speak. Just hoping that he'll find the shrimp, its a huge tank and a small goby

Sort of, they found each other and are both hiding between some rocks. They are definitely paired but too shy to show themselves. Will try to get a pic soon. I've heard him snapping. Hope thats not a bad thing lol. Will keep you posted.

make a trap with a 2liter plastic bottle with some chow in it... the pistols look for food during the night mostly . and leave the trap on the tank floor or against a rock where theyll be able to climb in.
I've caught all my pistols like that... like 20 of them lol
