Mornings hi all

So I have been a lurker on the forums for a while and have been reading and researching for some time on reef tanks. I have also helped my younger brother purchase and setup his own reef tank.

I have finally managed to get my hands on not 1 but two tanks for a rather god deal:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:. Both tanks are second hand and 1, a 600x600 cube is in fairly good nick and is basically plug and play. Managed to score some pretty decent equipment with the tank and will probably change some of the equipment as I go but for the interim I am going to give it good clean and then get some water in her.

The second tank however I literally pick up for nothing as it was rather abused by the previous owner. a buddy of mine had it laying around his store and said I can take it but this one has some major work on it as the base is cracked, the stand and cabinet needs some work and has 0 equipment so that is going to be my project tank.

Anyways just wanted to say hi and that I will be posting pics of the setups as they come along.

cheers
Pindyman

Hahaha..think we need to make that a badge or something

Or maybe you aren't that patient, you already have a second "project tank" before your first one is set up

lol...trust me the project tank is a loooong way off due to the amount of work on it..if worse comes to worse it must just end up as spare parts if I cant save it...was checking it out again and it may require a complete break down and rebuild as I am not sure on the condition of all the seals

Hello and welcome Pindyman

Remember to rather take it slow. This hobby can be a bit expensive, especially if you get the bug big time and go all out. Rather enjoy the DIY weekends coming up.

Thanks riaan don't worry I kow it can be expensive...my bros tank crashed a few months back and he lost about 15k woth of livestock....ass I told Mr 459...I am known as the mental aquarist lol...tend to overhung things before committing...tht why it took me roughly 8 months to get a tank lol

Welcome to jou MASA :tt2:

im very new as well

i just recently purchased a 900x500x500 tank with all the plumbing from @Bigbone, with a reef ts1 skimmer, bubble magus sp2000 skimmer pump, a reactor, the stand and cabinet, 6xT5 bulbs in a lighting unit (doesnt fit so nicely, some DIY is required)...sump, some aregonite

required now is still a water uplift pump, and the live rock, some tank cleaning (any recommendations as to how to do this???) and then the cycling...

got lots to learn and lots of reading to do still but im getting there,

welcome to you too then mr chan...

as for cleaning depending on how how diety the tank is you may need a scraper some water etc lol....oh no detergents of any kind btw...

Mornings hi all so haven't updated in some time due to December madness.

So ooo to give u all an update...I got the tank all nice and clean and sexy looking and after negotiations with the big boss managed to secure a portion of real estate in the dining room to set up the tank.

There she is all clean and plugged in afyer the first fill but it does look messy under the skirt.

Water clearing up nicely and light unit not hooked up yet

I decided to make a cabinet out of some wood I had lying around and ended up with this

Also managed to do some tidying behind the tank to get the wires all hide away nice and snug

At this point I was semi satisfied hut still wanted to do something with the base.

Afyer a lengthy debate with myself I opted for solid white perspex sides secured with magnetic catches

And this was the end result.

Okay so I finally got my phone from wifey so can continue the update lol....

After getting the stand done obviously the next step was getting some rock into the tank...
