    Howzit guys,

A buddy of mine collected a few stuff from Gordons Bay today. He collected some local snails and hermits.

I have some experience with a local snail called Periwinkles, tuff buggers only had one or 2 die after having them for months.

My question is about hermit and then what looks like Nassarius snails. How safe are they and what is there main diet?

Try to work out if its better if they get chucked.

    Thanks

Got some local Durban snail's in my tank and thy ro a gr8 jod of keeping the glass clean. I had them in the Quarantine tank for a 2-3 week's to get them use to the water quality. And thy know there jod.

It might be a temperature & water problem.

Post pics of the snails. Nassarius snails live in the substrate. You hardly see them. Every now and again you will see a attenna as they look for food. They keep substarte clean. I feed mine any meaty kind of food. I even put hake on a rock and they eat that.

I have some local hermits, so far so good. Don't really see them eating. They algae grazers, added them to help control it and they did nothing I noticed. They still alive though.

Make sure you have your permit, when I collected them in Stand and they controlled the beach well. When they saw me with a bucket they stood closer and watched me.

I am also very interested to hear what local cold water snails we can use. I personally wouldn't trust any of the local hermits! Doubt any are reef safe and they may go on a snail killing spree! Paying 40-50 bucks a turbo and then having it become a local hermit home is not my idea of fun.
