Hi Wildbunny - I am quite sure that you are not allowed to take anything WHILE ON SCUBA kit. You are allowed to freedive for specimens, and collect CERTAIN lifestock, according to the rules stipulated on the back of the collection permit, as available at the local post offices (the blue form).

In SA keeping a tank cold is more difficult than keeping it warm. To keep animals from that side of the world you will definately need a chiller to keep the temp below say 24 degrees, which is alomost impossible without a chiller.

You can keep the animals at a higher temp, but remember that they cold blooded, so you will be shortening their livespans by increasing their metabolism.

IMO, stick to more tropical species, either dive them out in Natal, or buy em

    Hi Wildbunny,
I lived in PE where I started this hobby a very long time ago. I never scub dived for stock, only snorkel. You will only find tropicals there during the months of mid December till early April. The best places in PE area I used to dive was in the Swartkops river mouth, infront on the Minette hotel, Beachview, Seaview and then there are the various tidal pools around the coast. The fish get washed over the walls and are trapped untill you come along with your net. These are the best finds. (Willows camp site, Willow Grove camp site, etc.

    Good luck.
