live rock

    hi.i bought some live rock and not sure if all the pieces are actually live rock.
    expecially this red rock:

    and 2 pieces of rock have dead sps on it.should I leave it on the rock .or crush it up in the dsb or display tanks

    I don't know about the red, it looks like sandstone. I have not seen red sandstone in the ocean, the red/orange cliffs I have seen are due to lichen growing on the rock. I always thought red rock was due to iron content in the rock but a geologist will have a better opinion.
    I would leave the skeletons on the other as it looks like a good place to grow some zoas or Xenia and will make a nice feature.

    Looks like a old peice of corrobrick thats been rolling in the sea for a year or two

    The best way to trust a rock or grit or anything like that for use in salt water is to try a magnet close to it, if there is any attraction at all, throw it away!
    Even corals may grow over metals.

    thanks for the input guys.
    just as I thought ,a brick laying in water for a long time.because I notice that the rock surface actually breaks down if I scrape on it
