What is the correct procedure in regards to having live rock in a warm water marine tank. I stay in Port Elizabeth and I have been told if I dive my own live rock I have to kill it by leaving it in the sun and removing the protruding parts. Because my tank is warmer than the sea in PE everything on the rock will die in the tank and give other spikes and problems. Some reckons that it should stay in water till transferred into the tank. But everyone have their own theory and I am not sure what to do. It's quite sad to see the stunning live rock die and the purple turn to white. What will your advice be to me? What is the best way / procedure to follow in order to maintain or preserve the natural beauty of the live rock in such a system?

You can not collect your own rock. It is illegal to take live rock from the ocean. Save up and but the right stuff so that you don't have any headaches.
