I have been running for almost 5 years with LR only.:peroni:

    I am bussy setting up a new tank.The sump size wil be 90 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm and the display will be 1m x 0,5m x 0,5m.

Now the question is will I fill it with LR or do a DSB??

Whats the pros ond cons on both ??

I have read allot on both of them but can't seem to make up my mind.

    Well, your poll is flawed.

Last option, how much live rock? a piece or two is awesome. But covering all the sand with rock is not.

Sand give a lot more surface area for bacteria compared to rock. Sand is cheap. Liverock you pay by the KG.

@RiaanP I first wanted to know what is the best then I will design the sump and speak to some guys exactly how to do it.But my main goal here is to determine which way to go..

There is no best, both work, both do mineralization and nitrification well, dsb can and will do denitrification if large enough in relation to tank volume, LR can do it as well provided its not all covered in algae etc

Most users of dsb get extra bang as they normally have it as a combined refugium, which ever way you go, good husbandry is the secret

also, what part of your system do you want to fill?

    Sump, use sand
    Display use liverock.

Why not look at running bio cubes instead of a dsb ?
There is a big write up on the forum about the cubes and everyone who has used them
    Seems pretty happy
