    Zuna,

Your LR has only recently been added to your tank if I remember correctly.

The changes you are seeing on the LR is the coralline algae which is adapting to its new environment. As I previously explained to you , the coralline will go through different stages and you may even end up with different shades of coralline on the LR , than when you initially bought the rock.

Quite normal and nothing to worry about.;)

Coralline will also turn white if exposed to the air for long periods

Hi, coraline algae can also bleach white if exposed to too much light when out of the water,eg.during a water change.

    Zuna,

IMO this also happens in established systems. Coralline will go through phases where it will grow , die off , then new coralline grows back and so on.
There is a connection obviously between the water chemistry and the health of the coralline algae, so you do need to pay attention to the water parameters.

Has the coralline gone totally white or is it just white edges surrounding the coralline ?
If the edges of the coralline are turning white it is in fact "new" growth and this is also quite normal.

    Hey guys

I see that this thread is very old, but I would like to ask the same question: What can make purple rocks turn white?
My rocks has been purple for a good part of a year or so, and the last few months, there has been som parts where they are getting white spots (looks almost like snow flakes) forming all over.
Water params are in check - could it be too much light?

    Any opinion will be appreciated
    Thanks

The first time I noticed white spots on my corraline algae is when my alk went below 6.5 dhk as soon as I got it back past 8 it regained it colour rapidly

its very easey , maintain stable water parameters and low Po4 and it will do just fine , i have noticed a light spectrum leaning towards blue gives me a nice color and weekly water changes to replace trace elements often help to speed up its growth, i think when anyone asks a question regarding their tank they should state their parameters first and then ask also a sump and display pic would help

When live rock is left out of water for too long the coraline algae turns white. I assume from drying out and possibly dying. I noticed this on the back of my tank when I sold it recently :whistling:
