Hello Everyone.

Is anyone in Cape Town willing to share some of their "Premium Fiji" live rock with me (for a cost of course). I am looking for +-2-3 kg's to give my current life-rock (and the rest of my system), a boost in the way of "micro-life" and some fresh types of corraline algae.

Also looking for some chaeto again as well - I lost mine at the time which my tank crashed in January of this year (2007).

Many thanks.

BTW: I have tried some of the suppliers/sponsors - most only have Kenya live-rock. And some other who might get in "Premium Fiji" live-rock only wants to sell at minimums of 20 kg's at a time.......

I only want some to "kick-start/boost" my existing micro-life in my tank....

Many thanks.

Yeah good luck. I have been looking for some for a long time, when it is available you pay huge $ but probably the best investment you will make in your tank, I just get peed off when the LFS ask really high prices but you cannot be guaranteed of the source and what comes in you get, also you are not guaranteed any goo dmicor life of corraline as most dies off in shipping, the kenyan stuff going around at the mo is not very good, I agree with you.

Hey Muz.... This just amplifies what I have been feeling for a VERY long time about the marine aquarium hobby in South Africa. Like EVERYTHING else, no-one bothers to import the REALLY Decent stuff (look at what you can get from e.g. GARF, or perhaps even Tampa Bay Seawater suppliers)..... We should be happy with the scraps of the products, the rest of the world does not want......
This just goes to prove what you mentioned in your addition.......

So, once again - I would REALLY love to have - even if it was just a 1kg piece of REALLY REALLY DECENT "Premium Fiji live rock".......

Cheers!

I think one of the bigger problems in SA is that everyone is looking for a 'deal' if you look overseas say in the States for example they have a similar problem but the hobby is much bigger, the market is bigger and there is generally more spend.

I feel sorry for some of the suppliers, in the US for example many LFS support themselves on LR sales,Lr is expensive but so is the cost of collection etc. In SA they support themselves on goldfish sales. I mean even at R69 per kilo look how long the Kenyan stuff sits for.

I don't think we support the LFS LR sales enough for them to risk bringing in such expensive products in the off chance it will sell which is why you have to order upfront.. I don't know many people willing to pay R400 for a 2kg rock. I know I'm not !

I have seen some small pieces floating around, if I see any I will let you know.
