    Hi Guys,

I have just put in my live rock today. I bought Fiji live rock and upon putting them in the tank they just looked like normal rock. After a few hours lots of little flowers started appearing and dissappeared. Is this good or bad? I am not sure but i must say very exciting.

    regards,

The little flowers may be tube worms, good for you if they are, see if you can get a pic.

You may want to rethink the use of the rice crispy size crushed coral..... chances are it will form a detritus trap soon ~!

    Marinenoob,

Fan worms are good critters to have:thumbup:
They are "filter feeders" and as such will feed on suspended "food" particles in the water column.

Detritus is ..... well simply put it is muck consisting of fish poo , uneaten food bits , dead organic and inorganic substances and metabolites ( expelled waste products) from critters in and on the live rock.

Detritus is both bad and good to have.
Good , in the sense that it provides food for detrivores in the sand and LR .
Bad , in the sense that if left to accumulate , it will alter the water chemistry by upping your Nitrate levels. In the long term this can become detrimental to your system

    Marinenoob,

They are most likely pods (Copepods & Amphipods)
Good critters to have in a tank:thumbup:
