Live rock in DBN

    Hey ppl

    I was just wondering where the Durban guys get their live rock from? Almost all the LR I have seen for sale in DBN has been more dead than alive.

    what do mean the live rock is more dead than alive? what u expecting to see

    I mean there is no sign of life at all on the rock. The water the rock is in is not even yellow, its brown. The skimmer attached to the system that the live rock is on is overflowing into the sump, etc...... I see the live rock that the Gauteng guys get and there is all sorts of life on it, softies, featherdusters, small crabs hitchhiking, etc. Where do you find rock like that in Durban?

    eish sorry if the tanks that arre keeping the live rock in your neck of the woods are in a state, but u want live rock to filter the water to convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate to nitogen gas not for creatures and corals on the rock, if u get them its usually just lucky or unlucky cos u can get some serious pest hitch hickers come in.

    Ya there are some nasties on LR for sure. I know that the live rock is for filtration, but when you pay +-R100.00 p/kilo for it you would like to see some sort of bonus life on it. And when you cycling a new tank it helps if there are a few distractions, staring at bare rock for weeks on end is boring :p
