Feed your fish frozen mysis, eventually live mysis will hatch from eggs introduced with the frozen mysis. Happened with me. First in the sump and now they are everywhere.

Might be, as long as your bio-filter can handle it.

I'm also not sure how much will be needed, as I fed it to my fish, so technically added many cubes over time. I stopped feeding mysis for many months, but still see very small ones, so they are now definitely reproducing on their own, even after a tank move.

One thing I've noticed that you might want to consider; it seems they have out competed my big copepods and amphipods. I used to have plenty, but seldom see them these days. Not sure if the mysis predates the copepods, or competes for the same resources.

Amazing how the eggs can withstand such low temperatures. Anyone else experience this?

Since my observations were not scientific, I thought I'd dig a little deeper. I've come across others with live mysis, who feed mysis and also think they hatched from the frozen food.

I have however also found two people saying that the frozen mysis we feed are a freshwater species, and obviously the ones in our tanks are saltwater. Both said they are introduced like other pod life, on rock, coral, etc.

Although not conclusive, I'm now less sure if my original thinking. I looked at the packaging for Ocean Nutrition frozen mysis, and it doesn't specify the exact species.

If they don't actually hatch from frozen, it would be quite difficult to catch them alive from another tank.

They are quite fast, never stop moving and tend to stay under rocks or the bottom of the sump. I imagine most of the water will have to be siphoned to get them.

Or maybe a container can be left in the sump, which they'll eventually go into, which can then be quickly taken out.

    Found an interesting article: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-02/rs/index.php

It seems Mysis are carnivores, and can be raised on baby Brine Shrimp, so the reason I have fewer other pods is likely that they prey on the juvenile pods, and not compete for the same food resources.
