    I have seen a few guys make storms in their tank and have lightning effects.

    This is easy to do with bright white LED's and the effect does look great!

    Now the question is, how does this affect the LS in your tank?
    Does this not scare them shitless?

    Is there any benefit in doing this, or just another useless effect?

    Lots of debates on weather effects (clouds/thunderstorm etc.), but no proof/research that it changes overall behavior of LS in captivity.

    I would think that flickering bright lights would stress fish

    LOL

    Jip, my biggest concern was stressing fish, and that is all it will do!

    So what happens in the ocean when there are thunderstorms? Tbh I do think there is merit to the idea. Storms are seasonal so it could initiate spawning of certain corals and fish. Also bear in mind that you can program these lighting units to follow the exact same lighting and lunar schedules that your stock will encounter in the wild. So then it only really makes sense then to include storms on that schedule.

    Well, the lightning is cool with sound effects, but that will drive you crazy trying to watch TV, but without it will look like a fluorescent trying to start. :confused1:

    So after checking our more videos of the Reef Tech Prometheus I had to wipe the drool off the table. I called the wife and showed her the vids. Then I wiped the drool off the table again.

    I want it!

    Did some research on the price $1250 each. I will need 6 or 7, that totals around R60000. So I guess I'm not buying it!

    That is just insane!

    @lconelius

    The cheaper solution is to do a DIY CREE setup and by a separate controller to do the weather effects.

    @jaquesdp08

    Sorry, I should have been more specific. I mean the overall well being of the LS and how they live in aquariums vs. the ocean.

    DIY it, get a small cheap home disco strobe light and wire it up. Get one of these electronic guru's here to wire up a cheap little pulse thingy and you're done, or even a half second timer on a relay will be perfect, should get 4 or 5 nice flashes on half a second.
