ok guys and girls here goes.

I've been giving it alot of thought and what i've been told just makes things worse.
Currently i'm running 4 t5 tubes in my four foot (ATI's) and i'm happy with the corals but everyone is telling me to change to LEDs and i will see the colour "pop" and the corals will grow better, leds last five years. Now the question i propose to my fellow reefers is this leds vs t5s give me your opinion and views and even your experiences. One thing i learnt at the reef meet last nyt is no need for ultaviolet and red bulbs.

Before i embark on an adventure i like to know the route i shall take!!!!:p

I know it's a tough decision and hear say goes a long way...but i myself have been liberated from 6 X 39W T5's to a 900mm CREE LED Unit..which i will not change for anything. the amount of light this unit emitts is really unbelievable..my corals not only grow more spectacular but their colours really bloom under these Cree LED's.i'd say give it a go..but get the right unit for the right tank..and the height plays a role as well

I must say there was some really interesting facts that were learned from Jake at the reef meet last night about the merits and demerits of led lighting. IMHO it all boils down to what you are looking for from a lighting setup.

Controllability, customisation and efficiency - LEDS
Reliability, range of spectrum and proven combinations - T5
Power and growth, and time proven performance - Halide

They all have their shortcomings, which is apparent by the number of people using halide/led combos for power (halide) and colour rendition (leds) for example...

I run 2 of these units now. Specs: LED 36 x CREE LED (5w and 3w's) allso use SemiLED UV. Each unit then also has 4 x 24w T5's. (I use a combination of ATI bulbs - Aquablue Special, Coral Plus, Purple Plus and Blue Plus) Each unit is 208w so 416w in total,

Will take a pic of them over my tank later when I get home...

Nope, they are store bought...the ATI aquablue special is very white, with a hint of blue....

My T5's come on for about 4hrs now, but will increase the cycle slowly....leds stay on with sunrise/sunset etc.
