    Hi to all fellow reefers.

This is a question that I am still struggling to get to grips with:

How does one know whether you have a lowly lit , moderately lit or highly lit aquarium?

The reason I am only asking the question now is that I only now started cycling my new tank which I want to keep some corals in. Soft corals and a zoa or two.

I am getting a 4 x 39 watt unit for this tank which is , from the substrate 34.5 cm high.

I would really like to understand what determines the aspects in my question before the tank is done cycling.

Then you can go to a good LFS who got a meter, or you can ask them which lights is the best for the corals you want to keep. It's difficult for us coz we haven't got those fancy gadgets

The general rule is a minimum of 1W per liter for corals but It's just a rough guide. It depends on your tanks dimensions, what type of light your going to use and the specimens your going to keep.
