First the powder brown and blue and now two dwarf angels. I am decidedly envious!

so i did a silly thing, i drained and filled my skimmer with vinnegar forgetting that i had a bypass to my carx unit which was loosley hanging back into the tank and pumped about 2lt of vinnegar into my system, idiot!!! this happened on the 24 dec...

my fish immediatley started turning on their sides, i freaked and threw bicarb in to counteract the ph swing! it dident really work, so onto the phone to my trusted friend darron and he pumped me 1500lt, so on the 24th i did a 100% TOTAL waterchange,

i lost a fairy wrasse and a fradmani gramma and 2 cleaner shrimp! i was lucky, my tangs all made it and i could kick myself for making such a silly mistake, i checked everything but just noot good enough!!

so beware when doing maintenance, ill never let my skimmer get to the state where it needs that treatment again and ill most deffinatley be removing it from the system to clean if it does in future!

ive been a little busy building an extention to add to my system after assessing the "wasted" space i have! after all if you have a room dedicated to marines you may as well propperly uitilise it :)

it took me from 9:30 till 18:45 with only a half hour break (quick walk around after hitting my finger with 4lb hammer) to break through this wall!!! i did this on new years day, believe me i couldent lift my right arm for a few days and im still struggling!

    some progress pics

Another front view of the tank, just waiting for my wife to collect the perspex and the vynil and i can put it in position and start the plumbing,

The overflow will be T'd so that 80% goes directly into a detritus filter im building, this will have the water entering at the bottom of the "detritus sand bed" and fluidising it to stop it from going anoxic, i may slow the rate of flow down in order not to kick up and allow the detritus to flow over into the main filtration system.

time will tell if this is a good or bad idea to have been added, the remainder of the flow will go directly to the large tanks filtration,

when im finished with this phase i will be on approx 2000lt water capacity, so i am looking at a second or a bigger skimmer ( my current one services 4000lph).

what i like is the new extention gets me excited as i am sorta at capacity with my angels so i can add a few i wouldent have really added to the main DT

i will try either a pair of goldens or 1 x potteri, 1 x lemon peel and 1 x multicolour in the new side, i have a pair of breeding bangaai also earmarked for the set up and perhaps a pair of jawfish?

im putting substrate into this side so want to create as much life in the substrate and rockwork as possible...

Why not do something completely different with this one...its plumbed to the main tank so maybe do like a macro algae type setup with the inferno as a show piece with your clowns. Then the tank can work as a viewable refugium as well for the main display :D :D :D

Was trying to find for you earlier...but didn’t get a proper chance...there is always that Nano Reef TOTM winner that was a compete macro algae tank for inspiration.

Been toying with the idea of using that broken backed sump I’ve got and converting it to a little cube and plumbing it onto my main tank as a macro algae tank...just don’t know how I would plumb it that’s put me off.

This one of his? I like the big mangrove as the pinnacle but that’s about it...not enough macro and too much coral for me. :m01:
