    Hey guys, first marine tank, i'm new and would like to upgrade the lights in my boyu tl-550. i want lights specifically compatible with coral as mine are not strong enough (i think)

    Which lights do you have in there, the t5 or LED's?

    Oh, sorry. You're new here...

    :welcome7::welcome7::welcome7:

    The best advice I can give from the get go is never be afraid to ask a dumb question, cause there's no such thing. If you're unsure of something, rather get advice.

    Looking forward to seeing your progress, just take it sloooow

    @jsoli4, don't you think it's a bit soon to ask the new person to go topless...

    @Jamie if you have the standard LED's I believe they will be sufficient. I have a 550 with LED's and my corals are happy.

    @TaahirS, we're not alone, right, Jamie, T5s are long cylindrical tubers, LEDs are bright singular dots

    J think I read somewhere that the t5s aren't suitable for corals. Let one of the experts comments first.

    They do have an led hood that you can buy for your 550.
    Contact one of the sponsors (LFS) about buying one. They are pricey though:(

    t5s are designed for growing corals, if they are designed for growing it, some are only for colour, now, they are more than sufficient for coral growth, especially as I would recommend sticking to softies ( corals that require less light) (look up zoas and mushrooms) I believe BOYU comes with reef t5s, but I've never had one, so I wouldn't know
