    Hi

I would like to start up my old R338 again, this time without the hood. Will be using as quarantine/back up tank for my RSM 130, but will be on display so I need it to look pretty neat. I am planning to have live sand, live rock, one or two critters, aquaclear hang on filter at the back. Water changes would coincide with RSM, 10-15% every 10 days .

    My questions -
    • what lighting options can I consider - want something that looks neat (I like the clip on leds that come with the pico tanks) - no need to light up SPS but need decent light for tank display and softer corals (maybe)
    • what skimming options are there - due to small size of tank I would prefer a hang-on skimmer
    • Anything else I should consider?
    Thanks

What are you planning to use as filtration? I would suggest an external filtration system.

    sounds great!
run carbon in the filter, and maybe seachem matrix, then dose special blend and things should be perfect!! i would dose 50ml every 4th day in a QT
for lights you can look at even energy savers as this is a QT, use 2 x cool white and 1 spiral blue CFL

as for skimmers your best bet is a prism or reef octo BH-1000

Aquaclear hang on mechanical and chemical filter - would leave stock sponge and carbon and add phosguard

Dosing special blend- not sure I'm with you
CLF lighting - what light fitting are you thinking of ?- would like small light unit with LED's if possible

Skimmers - Reef octo too bulky for such a small tank.

    Thanks for the feedback

I run a rapidled par 38 bulb on mine. Bio cubes in a DIY reactor. Bubble Magus Nac - QQ skimmer with a two little fishes reactor for po4 media and 2 MP10s on mine

Are you hapy with the rapidledp par 38, as I am serioulsy considering that. Also, what lamp fitting are you using, or is it a DIY unit. By the way your legendary R338 setup is the reason I am resurrecting mine!
I'm leaning towards Tunze 9002 or Hydor Slim Nano for skimmers- what do you think of these?

Very happy with the par38. Just using a normal floor standing lamp from lighting warehouse

I was originally looking at Tunze 9002 and Hydor Slim, then I saw Bubble Magus and it was R800 less than half the price of the others. So I went with that
