    Hi ALL

I am just finishing my tank 1600 x 800 x 800 and I am looking to purchase a LED Light unit. I dont want MH or T5's. I also would like the sunrise, moonlight, cloud shade and lightning features. What would be the best unit for my tank?

Or should I go 3 x Kessil a350W on e electronic timer and forget about the lightning etc.

You can get a pretty neat Vertex Illumina with that money that has all the feutures plus extras you will ever need..

    Speak to the sponsors
Radion , Sol, Vertex, Kestrel. Does not really matter after you take away extra bells and whistles. Do not forget MaxSpect Razor.

On your size tank you would need 3 Radions. Dorry Pets and Idol Marine plus Pet Stop carry these. You should be able to get them from any marine shop that deal with Aquarium Depot as a wholesaler. At about 9K it is not cheap. Add extra R380 per unit for the upgrade to TIR lenses.

Sol, speak to @Nemos Janitor from Nemo's Installations. Check the sponsors page for contact info
They about the same price as the Radions, also would need about 3 units.

Vertex, speak to @Submariner from The Serious Reefer. Again check out the sponsors page. Their units works differently to the others as it is one combined long fixture. Would go for the Illumina 360 1500. They are cheaper than the first 2. It only have 2 coulur optics, but can be upgraded to multicolour optics but the last price I got on per pad upgrade was 750 a pad. Each 300mm got 2 pads. So keep that in mind if you want to change the pads as on the 1500 you are looking at 10 pads. The end result would be the same about as 3 Radions from the start. Bit they do look neat.

And Razor MaxSpect, Speak to @HenkHugo from Peckoltia Enterprises. They look like the Vertex units, are passively cooled, so no fan noise. Multicolour as well. MaxSpect Mazzara P is another option, also from HenkHugo

Do your homework. As LEDS are suposed to last 10 years, that is the time you will have yours over the tank. And it is a lot of capital outlay.

Are this your first tank? Are you new in this hobby?
If yes on these questions, and if your budget looks like mine, I would much rather buy a secondhand T5 or MH/T5 combo for that tank. And first buy the biggest, best, overrated skimmer for my system. Later on, when it comes to the first globe replacement, by then you would know what corals you want to keep. And you had enough time to investigate the LED options available.

    Welcome

Vertex should be fine with the size of the tank. You will need 3 or more Radions for that size tank which will take you over the budget.

Unless you want to go the DIY way which is cheaper. Wont give you the lightning and thunder storm effect but does the job.
