With all the talk of LED lighting these days, I am sure alot of reefers are ready to take the leap and try out a led light unit.(Myself included)
Are any of the sponsors going to take the step forward and look at bring these things into the country?
Or do i look at DIY'ing myself one of these bad boys.:whistling:

That Nano LED units that we sell gives off a higher par reading than with a 150w SE mh 12 000k unit(On the same dept)...and it isnt even Cree LEds, very impresive

    I have to disagree.

Factor in the Eskom bill and the bulb changes you have to do on MH or even just tubes, LEDS quickly earn their keep.

You can also sell your current lighting to help fund the switch over if you're not starting from scratch.

Remember running leds 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, gives you 11 years of operating time.

And lets face it, at the rate technology is evolving I doubt we'll still be using the same lighting in 11 years time.

    Thats The theory
They have not been around long enough to prove that they will last that long.
I totally believe that LED can light reefs to the same extent as MH and T5 but as to their longevity i will believe it after someone has a unit that has been in use for over 3 years with no drastic changes in the light output

I am just starting and have used Aquaray 1000 LED's I do not know any better and I think they look very good[IMG]

The nice part is you can see exactly where they shine an interesting thing is if I look into a cave I can see only the blue led shineing through a hole and not the white looks rather strange to see blue spots. The proof will be in the eating of the pudding and after paying my EKSDOM account I can still have pudding

I have to agree here with @piXius...i saw his lights and they look good...and the cost is not that bad...its the same as a 4x 39w fitting and then the fitting comes with cheap useless globes by the time you replace those globes with quality ones you pay double the price for the t5 unit...my next money spend will be on a led unit...as it is i have to spend a grand a year on globes and i get them at discounted price so the led way will pay for itself in no time at all..

the proper cree LED units are just too expensive. I dont think they will take off in SA because by the time it becomes cheap enough, plasma will be widely available and I believe that to be a better option :)
