    Hi guys

Help needed. Please forgive my lack of knowledge in this department.

    I have a 700mm(W) x 450mm(L) x 500mm(Depth) FOWLR Tank.

    I currently have 2 x T5's (1 Blue & 1 White) running in the tank.

I wanna upgrade to more lighting so that I can start adding corals.

I thought about adding 2 more T5's, but after reading all these threads about LED's and MH's, I'm not sure what to do.

Should I go MH or LED or more T5's?
    What lights would you recommend?
What would be the ideal Kelvan rating light for my sized tank?
What power output lights should I look for?

    Would a few of these work? http://www.ledlighting.co.za/uploads/LED DL8 TD.pdf

    Or maybe this? http://www.ledlighting.co.za/uploads/HB Extrusion 23-90 SPEC.pdf

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Cheers

    I agree...I use 6 x 54w T5's on a 1.2m and the corals are thriving...

If its only a FOWLR tank why should it matter? Are you looking to start keeping corals? If not, T5 will be a good cheap solution that wont impact the tank (or your wallet) too much :)

    Thanks a lot guys.

Decided to just add another two T5's. Rather go simple, with stuff that I've tried and tested.

Trust the members of Masa to make things clear!

    You guys rock!

Now to get rid of my Racoon Butterfly.

Anyone want him? He is FREE to a good home.

    Cheers

Sorry, didnt read the post properly. And I didnt say he needed to run MH although if you want to keep corals, MH, I rate is cheaper and gives you a nice shimmer effect you wont get with T5. They do however chew up power (although when compared to 6 x 54w, the argument becomes somewhat moot) and cooks your tank. If you dont mind or you can get around that (auto temp, auto top up etc), then its not a bad option. I run a 150w MH on my one tank and its doing well.

My personal choice would be LED, they run cool, sip power, colors seem to pop and you get the shimmer however they are not tried and tested and pretty damn expensive. I'm currently running a 36w PAR38 on my other tank and the corals are doing just as well as the MH tank on a 3rd (even less in fact) of the power. The cost for the bulb was significantly less than the MH pendant but on your tank you would need quite a few which would bump up the cost. I'm planning for 3 PAR38s on my next build and it cost me around R1800.

T5s are just pretty dull to me. If youre gonna run 324w of T5's I would much rather go with 2 x 150MH. But this is an eternal debate, its all up to personal preference tbh. What I can say is that i'm addicted to the colors you get from LEDs. The corals look amazing under them, way better than anything else i've used.

Looks like a bank of 1w LEDs. Those generally shift there colour range very quickly and just dont cut it for growing stuff.

I am running 2 LED banks on my tank and my corals are doing amazingly well......or I think so. The other guys from Masa who are popping around tomorrow can say yay or nay.

But my tank is 850 deep.

    Hey guys

    I tried this globe out.

Nope, it's very dull. Not at all what I expected.

The Globe is 9W, which I don't think is good enough at all.

I'm going to ask the guys if he has higher wattage units.
