i was looking for a way to keep mild,no blind spot circulation for training mandarins to take frozen food and frans mentioned kreisel(jellyfish tank) as being option so i built an in tank version after studying the ones at the research centre. i built it out of perspex with a deep neck to prevent jumping out, i will place a rain bar unit through the side just above overflow holes to give counterclockwise circulation and replace water exiting through overflow slits and flood prevention holes, (i may replace slits with filter sponge should the need arise.the tank holding the kreisels i make will be full of chaeto , live rock and is attached to ts3 skimmer and dsb.

here are pics of the kreisel pre pump and rain bar unit

Interesting design:thumbup:, you say you are putting the rain bar above the holes right? Looking at this kreisel just blows my design out of the window. I've been stuck where to place my rain bar & was thinking of putting it under or opposite the window but after seeing your one makes me think again as i made it using a 30L tank a bit small but it would be running in the sump. I recon I need to rethink this tank again!!!!

Ok now I'm getting confused how big should a kreisel be? I'm making a kreisel using a small 30L tank is that ok or too small for cleaner shrimp hatchery?

Michael, I use a two gallon plastic gold fish bowl for my seahorse fry. I've recently found a 4 gallon one, but haven't put it in use yet.

LOL are you breeding goldfish now? kidding. Ok a goldfish bowl nhas an opening on top right? now what I've seen is that the bowl sits on it's side & bottom becomes a hole & both holes are covered, then a window gets added with a fine mesh then hole on top. now your kreisel I saw that it sits normal & that's it simple with air pump. confuzeled or cofukculated lol

actually the side perspex windows are 400mm by 400mm. i didnt want to go too small initially, compared to the ones i saw it is tiny. the reason one would put the rain bar unit in front of holes and water flows down in front of holes circulating counter clockwise would help reduce blocking of holes cos it sweeps floaties down and away from slits(i have drilled water holes above slits so that if blockage occurs excess water will flow out of drilled holes. ps the width of kreisel is 200mm. and i would like to train male and female at same time. however because everthing will not be allowed to settle i think it would be fine for one mandarin.(willuse kreisels with filter material for mandarin babies if fortunate enough to get the processess right

my kreisel is up and running! i love the way the water in the centre holds still and you have a sleeve of water that circulates! it is amazing that there are bubbles but they dont rise to the surface but are held gently in middle of kreisel. i will add another tap into tube to regulate water flow so i can adjust flow even lower to determine slowest flow to that will still keep small items in suspension.

Wow that's so awesome Glen it looks like it's running great. What size pump are you running? I have a little 4w would that be enough or too much if it's on it's lowest for cleaner shrimp?

it totally depends on the size of kreisel, lph output on pump and number of holes in rainbar. not only that but also the reaction of inhabitants cos that is the most important factor(kreisel flow must be adjustable up and downwards(imo)
