how much Matrix do you have?
Doubt if one small tub would be enough.

@Fuzzy I should be phrased better. It's been a long time since I did a tank thread @RiaanP I have two of those matrix bottles. But on the instructions it says the bottle treats 1000l. And I had a half full one from last tank. So should one and a half bottles be enough?

Yip, better than only 1 bottle.

Having more would not hurt either. Will just help having more.

As far as I know you do not need to replace Matrix. Just ensure that it does not get smothered in settlement.

Mine is in a flow through chamber, from below in upwards direction. Others have it in a plastic basket sitting in the middle of their sump where they used to have a small DSB. Easy for them to lift it out and shake the detritus out of it.

Matrix you do not replace, it's like a bacteria breeding ground, you don't remove other then to shake off detritus

Amazing return. fully controllable flow plus a "feed" button which turns off pump for ten mins.

okay, update time, spent whole day with PVC weld and piping, sump return was drying (reason for eggcrate holding it) and there was only a drop-every-minute leak on the return which has been patched, so, officially, tank started cycling today
tomorrow will be building liverock structure and final touchups and adjustments

is that the way you are planning to run your sump?
The Seachem Matrix will block up with detritus if used like that. Get yourself a plastic basket at Plastic land, those with a lot of holes. Rather put the Matrix in the basket. A lot easier to lift and shake it clean than your current design.

verbal update, plumbing was delayed by day (proper sealing) so there is still some drips, all drop into sump so they can wait til tomorrow, tank has started cycling although aquascape hasn't been made, I am heading over tomorrow with some new live rock and will hopefully have it in proper working order by tomorrow evening. the tank started cycling on Tuesday and will continue dosing special blend until tank is ready

Okay, update time :p. Took water to be tested and there's no ammonia or nitrite in the water, which means it either cycled very quickly or hasn't started yet. Will wait another week before I add lifestock, if levels are still nothing that is.
    I grabbed a odyssea t5 unit from , 1.5m.
It will work in conjunction with my LED fixture

I got my diatom bloom on my glass and live rock. which would have started sooner if I had lights running while my tank cycled. Besides that all looks good, added some pieces of live rock and did general maintenance. no leaks, thankfully.

and now for you pictures addicts

I haven't seen any spike whatsoever, i have got a diatom bloom, but this is live rock from my 2 year old tank.... could that be the reason?
