check your calcium levels and you will know.

One week without the stirrer, test before and after. Then a week with.

As it continuously add saturated water with kalk into the system it should be able to keep your levels more constant.

Kalk raises Alkalinity/pH/calcium levels all at the same time

Hi Toolboysa I am aware of kalk's capabilities but in my case I think the reason for the kalk reactor is not doing its job properly because too less water is being evaporated ......what are the options apart from adding fans in the sump section to create more evaporation. .

what is your tank temperature? Maybe adding the fans is a good option.

Unfortunately evaporation is the main driving force behind the top up method. I know guys add vinegar to increase the concentration but I've never done it. And not sure how it would work in a topup situation I assume you would just add it to the RO water, but I have no idea how much. Think putting a small fan might be safest

got my chiller set at 27deg .....Riaan I dont want to add fans worried it will create salt creep ...other option is should I get rid of the kalk sterrir and add a doser .

Fans shouldn't be that powerful that it splashes water to create salt creep

Normal pc type fans work if you want DIY or see if any of your LFS sell Dymax Cooling Fans

Thanks guys ...just bit concerned because I added a few sticks 3 weeks ago and they all doing well so far so I intend keeping it that way if not better and more stable on the water parameter side .

    Howsit,

Before using a kalk stirrer ensure all your levels are where you want them before putting it on line as kalk replenishes in a balanced ratio, thereafter you can test frequently to ensure it is keeping up, If not you can switch to a doser altogether or just dose the shortfall thru a doser if you not keen on adding a fan for evap.

I worked great for me as I had no chiller and using a fan on an stc controller kept evap levels sufficient.

Adding fans will help the chiller to cool things down. Normal 12V PC fans. Just proper ventilation in your enclosed sump would help a lot.

See you are from Durban, so yes, evaporation cooling would not be as great as up here in Gauteng.

will try out the pc fans and see how it goes ...the thing is the wife is complaining abt the humidity in the house already because everything is closed up all day till we get home from work plus the chiller adds to the heat inside ..thinking I should install an extractor fan in my home as its not fees able to run the aircon all day long .

or move the chiller outside in a doghouse. Set up so that the hot air can be blown out and away without overheating the insides of the box.
