    Hello all

After many years away from this hobby, I have finally started a new tank. Excited and nervous at the same time, but have taken my time to research and know from experience not to rush. Spent the last 2 months collecting hardware and deciding on a display tank.

Eventually ready to get everything going a week ago and spent my time doing the plumbing, making RO water, designing an aquascape. Managed to get the tank filled this weekend and now the cycle begins.

Looks like you are off to a great start!

Do you use a sump for filtration?

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I use a sump for filtration, filter sock on inlet, 1st chamber JNS shark 2 skimmer, will add bio cubes, 2nd chamber after baffle will be used for refugium and last chamber has return pump with pellet reactor. I am still undecided as to what I will use the pellet reactor for.

    Nice going.
I would place a black sheet of ABS plastic behind the tank. Not sure on last pictures if you got a background now in place.

Hi @RiaanP. Yes, black ABS sheet is in place. Quick question, when should I start with bio cubes? Also any suggestions for what I should use the bio pellet reactor for? Want to use bio cubes in 1st chamber next to skimmer and have reactor in last chamber with return pump

Don't need a reactor with bio cubes. Just just the bomb method.

You could start the cubes now even but you won't see any nitrate spikes.

As for the reactor, I'm going to be using my biopellet reactor as a carbon/phosphate reactor.

yeah, can start with the cubes now, during the cycle period.

and no need then for the NP-pellet reactor.

My tank is cycling, day 9 and I have my first sign of diatoms and an ammonia spike. Put in a bio cube bomb yesterday and all seems to be going well

Evening, what is the purple "stuff" on the rock?
Does it have a scientific name, common name?

    That's called coralline, @Cascade.

It's a beautiful algae but needs calc to grow/survive.

Does look like a muricidae snail, but difficult to tell. The rock and zoa in the background is in focus.

Maybe another pic with it in focus, retracted, from underneath and a top pic.

Else @Lord_Blackadder can id this one from the current pic

@RiaanP, almost sure it is a Muricidae snail from what I have seen on your previous posts. I will try take another photo when he travels up the glass again. What do I do with him once I want to introduce a CUC? And do I need to feed him in anyway now? Seems he was on the hunt last night checking holes in the live rock for crabs
