    Hi guys.

Ive had freshwater fish for more than 7 years now and decided to go marine.

I have 250l tank on cabinet. Bought Reeftek TS3 :yeahdude:(went big to also use in future bigger tank), had sump made, bought aragonite, mineral mud and flotek S3100 return pump.
Built my own overflow that works great  (did not want to drill curved glass tank)

I'm really frustrated, cause the return pump makes a hell of a noise. :cursing: I can barely hear the TV, not talking about sleeping at night. The TS3 is very quiet, now I compare my pump to it. Returned the pump and they gave me another one to try, even worse. I'm running out of ideas. I think these pumps are made for outdoor and not indoor use.

Any suggestions on which pump I can try or what to do to get noise down will be greatly appreciated.

Is the noise from the pump a vibration noise? If so you must check to see how it sits on your glass- if the rubber pads/feet are in full contact or not. If they are try and put something under the pump between the pads and the glass. Something reefsafe, possibly a thin piece of something and see if that makes a difference. I'm not sure how what ever you choose will do in a tank over time and whether its fully safe or not but to get an idea its worth a try. If it works you then have time to figure out something permanent.

try a piece of styrofoam or a piece of rubber if you thinks its clean and safe to use

Its a flowtek. Tried a Lifetech as well. Noisy even when I hold it in my hand, away from the glass.

    hey philip welcome

just a question what model is the pump and what diameter pipe are you using as your return,

i had a simular scenario and it turned out i was trying to force too much water through too smaller return pipe....

it caused backpressure on the pump and the thing was noisy as hell..

perhaps post a pic and we can see if you overlooking something..

Thanx for all the advice guys.

Its a rattling noise. have it on both pumps. I think I will try Leslie's idea. Will go buy bigger pipe today. If that doesnt help, I wil take you up on your offer, Henk. Will try later and post some pics to help you guys see.

just to give you some idea, i tried to put a 4500lph pump through 20mm pvc with about 4 20mm elbows. the thing barely even trickled out at the top if i had gone to 25mm i would have been styling but it all depends on the pumps outlet size etc etc

run the pump in a bucket unattached to anything, if the nise persists its not necessarily the pipework

but what leads me to believe it is is the fact that 2 pumps were tried with the same problem occuring..

    good luck

I had the same problem with a Hailea 6530. Turned out it's a faulty impellor...

    Oh and WELCOME TO MASA...
