Well where do I start. I am here in Jhb because I had to go for a knee op on Monday, so I can't go home until the weekend because I will only be able to drive then. Now just 10 min's ago my tank sitter just called me and nearly my entire livestock is dead due to a power outage last night. All that is left is one of my clowns, silver scat and 2 pyjama cardinals. Further I lost everything, even my beloved Nevarcus Angel. So just bad luck, lost all my corals and now nearly all my fish. Really heart sore, those are just like my kids and this happens. :(:(:(:(

Thanks. This just makes me realize that I didn't cover all my bases as I thought. I think it is any reefers biggest worry when they are away from their tank and someone else is looking after for them. This just makes me more determined to try to make it fail safe. There is now a lot of planning to be done before I start restocking.

That's terrible news EFJ, I know some what of your pain. My area was hit with a 36hour powerloss thanks to cable theft 2 weeks ago. And I lost everything aswell.

So please share your ideas on making it bulletproof. So far only thing I can come up with is to get a small generator, so I can atleast recharge my batteries in such a long outage

sorry to hear. ive got jack squat in my tank and i love it to bits already. cant imagine what you are going through. Why not invest in an inverter. i got a 600w pure sinewave with 80w panel 15amp regulator and normal 12v battery. as soon as my setup is up and running i will connect. it only cost my 2k. still very sad though...

Thanks guys. Sorry for your loss @Toolboysa, this definitely rates up there as one of my worst feelings. I am starting to look at a dedicated solar panel setup just for my tank for starters. Will figure out the rest when I get home.

Just found out that my geyser is the guilty party in this whole ordeal. The geyser cracked on the weld seams unfortunately on the side where the element is. Luckly the geyser is mounted outside or else I would have to deal with water damage in the house or even lost some expensive electrical equipment on top of what I have already lost.
