    Gents,

it is with great pleasure that i announce the birth of my new tank ;)
after many phone calls and site surfing, i have decided on the best tank to meet my needs, i am inspired by "Szymon Jankowski's" beautiful reef tank which is similar in size. you can view his tank here to get an understanding of my goals and the looks that im going for. Tank of the Month - July 2008 - Reefkeeping.com

So here is what im planning

    Open Brains
    Zoa's

    Break Down of Tank
    • Tank constructed with 10mm glass with a single base and Euro Braced with a center brace for extra support.
    • external overflow and the back of the tank with a 50mm pipe with Durso
    • 2 x 25mm holes for the returns, drilled through the bracing into the tank
    • Black ABS sheeting on the back as well
    Sump

    • Chamber 1 - TS 3 Skimmer and Filter sock below the overflow pipe coming into the tank
    • Chamber 2 - DSB
    • Chamber 3 - return and temporary area for PO4 and Carbon ( just until i can get reactors )
    • chamber 4 - reservoir for auto top up
Thanks for all the support that i received and i hope this tank will be as beautiful as im hoping for.

i still have lots of questions and a lot to learn, so be patient with me

Sounds great. Can't wait to see this one.
Just double check the 2 x Flames..... they do not get on to well, but I stand to be corrected on this.

Your flow to weak man. Go for big stream pumps like the Resun 15000 l with controller. maybe 3 of those. Again go halides with t5. SPS seem to like halides better and rapid growth rates. Nice tank cant wait to see it.

thanks suhayl, noted about the flow, im planning on either getting 2 tunze's or 2 vortex pumps in the next 3months, for now the tank will run almost fish-less and coral-less for the first 3months,so the flow wont be so much of a need right now

i agree that halides are awesome ,but i prefer T5's, iv seen some beautifull SPS dominated tanks running only T5's. check my first post with a link to Szymon Jankowski's tank....WOW now thats beautifull and running t5's

but when im rich and famous il go with BIG halides.

If you work out on buying the 10 t5 with endcaps and ballasts going topcost much more than 2 halides. also replacing the halides everyear will be cheaper. T5 are awesome go for all Giesmans than.

thanks Suhayl, i have 6 T5 already, i must admit though that i will have to replace the ballasts and everything on my current unit to get it to keep up with Branded lighting units.

i will look into the halides and see what works out.
what do you guys recommend if i go halides? 250W or higher ? and hows many t5's would i need to compliment the halides
