    Hi

So I have been on here for some time now....and think it is time that I start my thread up!

    My tank specs:

    TL 550
    Upgraded return pump - 1500liter/hr
    1 x Resun 4000l/hr wavemaker
    1x Resun 2000l/hr wavemaker
    Replaced PL tubes with LED's 10 x 10 000k Whites, 5 x 20 000k Whites and 15 x Royal Blue
    1st chamber - Skimmer Boyu 310
2nd chamber -DIY phosguard reactor - runs phosguard and carbon (water flows through carbon first)
3rd chamber - media basker with purigen and cheato. Heater
4th chamber - return pump. And soon to host my new ATU.

I started the tank in Feb with about 10kgs of aragonite and 4 kgs of live sand. +-20kgs of live rock (found this was overkill and removed about 10kgs)

I have a selection of soft corals.
    Zoas
    Sinularia
    Toadstool Leather
    Cabage Leather
    Pincushion Leather
    Green, brown and white/pink starts.
    Mushrooms
    Bali polyps
    etc etc

    Fish:
    2 x Occelaris Clowns
    2 x Fire Gobies
    2 x Blue/Green Chromis
    1 x Lawnmower Blenny
    1 x Bi-color Blenny
My recent addition - Mandarin Drogonet (and he eats live brine shrimp that I hatch for him)
    and my favorite six-line wrasse!!

Parameters in the tank are stable.....coraline algae starting to take over the back panel and on some spots on the glass.

When I started on the 10th Feb 2012

I would just like to say thank you to all the local PE guys for helping....as most of the tank has been populated from frags....:)

To name but a few of the local guys...chops,saaid, petethefeet, Henkie, JarredV, seabass, munky....thanks to all for their contributions

I am well on my way to starting a 2m+ tank soon!!!

Hi, I found that struggling with netting, shot glasses etc to frag small things like mushrooms and xenia was too much of a mission.....:)

I then got this container....drilled some holes in it for water flow....and use a old heater suction cup to attach it....

Now i just pop my little frags in there to give them time to attach without being blown around.....works a treat!

Nice looking tank. I'm assuming you DIY'd the LED lights? Would love to see how you fitted them under the hood. Do you not have heating problems with the heatsink being inside the hood?

    Hi

As a matter of fact...i am actually having less problems with heat than I had before....the PL tubes's driver got warmer than the LED driver....

I made my own heatsink....10mm alu plate with some grooves machined. I did not even add any new fans....2 stock standard boyu fans! My temp is stable at 25deg....:)

One thing I did find....the so called best driver "meanwell" was getting so hot that one could not even pick it up.....and it is rated 10-14 leds.... I ended up using the "al cheap o" golden driver you buy off ebay.....rated to a max 18 leds.....I run 15....and it stays ice cold.....

The leds themselves get hot.....but not super hot..... if you touch the heatsink it feel cold.....

Maybe I can commission you to build me some Actinic supplements for my tank. Will be adding 4 more Aquablues tomorrow because of the sticks and barks aka SPS

Will post some ASAP. This was a pic during my build.....at first I was only oing to run 20 LED's, but another 10 was added since this.

The heatsink is 14cm x 30cm.....and it fits perfectly.....even used 2 stadard holes on the hood to fasted it......so it was litteraly just soldering the led drivers infeed ot the on/off switch....
