Hi Jesse - if you dont have your test kits, take some water to your LFS and get them to do some testing - is your tank new?

If so - test the following:

    Phosphates
    Nitrates
    Nitrites
    Ammonia

You should also test your Specific Gravity - but you need to do that at home, as your tank temp can have effects on this

Welcome to MASA Jesse - you found the right place, we'll help you with anything related to keeping saltwater pets in your house ;)
Can you tell us more about your tank - size wise, how long it's been running and what you need to test for?

    We usually test for

    Ammonia
    Nitrites
    Nitrates
    Phosphates
    pH
    salinity/specific gravity (salt level)
kH (alkalinity) (buffering capacity of the water)
    Calcium
    Magnesium

In the beginning you only need to test for the ones in red, although nitrates will only be after the cycle.
We use marine test kits made for this purpose. You can also take a little of your water to a reputable marine petshop to get it tested. Or one of the friendly reefers in DBN can help you out for now :p

O ja, seeing that you're new - read through my signature for some great beginner info ;)

Hi jesse, if you want to test the Temperature and Salinity place the hydrometer in the Main display. But if you want test the different parameters you can take a sample of the water in the display and use the different test kits to test for PH, Cal, Mag, Nitrates ext.
