so woke up this morning to find a big spider web looking thing around my clam stretching above and around it too.
Closer to the base of the clam it was more like a jelly feel.
couldn't find much on the web about it.

What is it and why is my clam producing it?

the clam hasnt been looking distressed or unhappy, well from what I know about clams- pretty new to them. Had this guy for about a month and a half now.

any insight will be appretiated.

thanks!

Check if there isnt a little tube spiral where the web is coming from which may be on the rock or the clam shell itself? There is a worm whos name I cant think of off hand that gives off a mucous strings to catch food and detritus. If you are not sure, remove the current web by fanning around the clam with your hand to get rid of it, kick up your substrate around the clam and see if another one forms

I couldnt be sure although I've never seen a clam do that before. If the jelly is coming from one of the syphons of the clam then it could eb shedding zoozanthellae or getting rid of excess food
