Hi all, so this is the first time I'm actually making my own tank thread. I have been in the hobby for just over 4 years and have had a number of aquariums, my main two being a Red Sea Max 130d and a Red Sea Reefer 170 respectivley. Over the time that I have had these tanks I gained much knowledge and learnt a lot about this awesome hobby. I also met a lot of people and have got to know a few Cape Town lFS really well.

I decommissioned my Reefer 170 in 2017 due to the large amount of work I had for Matric. After finishing the year well, in 2018 I decided that I wanted another tank but the problem was that I was studying at Stellenbosch and am only at home on weekends. I decided to setup a nano tank very simply in the hope of not having any major maintenance tasks and being able to maintain the tank only being home 3 days a week. That's where this small nano comes in...

Tank: Innovative Marine Nuvo fusion 10 gallon (35 litres)

Equipment: Kessil A160we on lowest intensity
Since syncra 0.5
Sicce 50w heater
Upgraded media basket
Siporax

Initially I was planing on keeping a mix of sps and lps, but soon discovered that a softie and lps tank would be easier and more realistic.

Here are some pics of the setup, the tank has been running about for 6 weeks if I'm correct...

I will try and keep this thread up to date but my stiddies may slow me. Will also try and post some pics of previous setups.

Any input would be much appreciated :)

So this weekend I decided to remove the sand... it just seemed to get dirty and have no real purpose except for looks. This is my first bare bottom I’ll be running. Hopefully in a few months I’ll have corals all over the bottom of this tank and it will look a bit better. I also added two baby clowns. Think that’s all the fish I’ll keep in this tank. I also added some marine pure balls to the rear sump.

For now I’m looking for advice , I think in need more (and random) flow in the tank and can’t decode between and mp10 and a Jebao sw2. The price of the pm10 puts me off and the Jebao may be unsightly in the tank?

I’m also wondering what to do about my anemone wondering about. He seems to move around the base of the Gsp rock and irritates the coral. I’m wanting the Gsp to grow onto the glass base of the tank where I can control (frag) it from, but I’m not sure if the nem will make this an issue?

Finally I was thinking of adding 1 or two sps. Maybe a milka frag and a Bali slimer. Kept these corals very successfully in my temporary frag tank and they looked stunning under very intense light and high flow. Wonder if I can get them to look good in this setup?

I don’t dose on this tank. My mum feeds and tops up water once a day as I’m in Stellenbosch on week days. Other than that the tank gets a 30-50% wc every week and has new polyfiler put in every 2nd week.

Any input would be appreciated! Cheers

The tank this afternoon. I have also slowly replaced all siporax with marine pure balls. Will be interesting to see any differences.

Little bit of an update... this past weekend I removed the anemone due to it stinging corals. Sad to see it go but I think it was the right choice.

I also upgraded the return pump from a sicce syncra 0.5 to a 1.0 and swapped out the sicce heater for an eheim jäger 50w. Surprisingly it seemed that the sicce heater kept a more stable temperature where as the jäger seems to fluctuate about 1 degree.

I also couldn’t resist adding a red monti and purple milka frag, hopefully the large weekly waterchanges keep up with replacing elements. Along with the sps I increased the light to 50%. I’ll try post a photo soon!

Did u use the rest of the marine pure balls? Ill buy it off you if u didnt use it

I think mp10 will be too big & a sw2 at the back u wnt really see...

I also got a few SPS in the tank with obly the return & they look great, except for the tubri snail knocking them over.

I’m probably going to use the rest of the balls for a frag setup. But thanks for the advice on flow and I’ll check out your build thread for sure!

A quick pic update. For some reason my phone camera was acting up and the pics seemed way too blue...

Anyway, I’m finally getting a bit of coralline algae growing on the base of the tank which is nice, I’m going to try and keep a close watch on alk. I also added 3 trochus snails and some lumo green candy cane. The Gsp seem to be recovering slowly too.

On the ‘to get’ list: watermelon chalice and green Bali slimer
