    Hi

I am setting up a new tank with 411l of water. Can anyone tell we what is the minimum light needed for this tank. At this moment I have bought a 150w Metal Helite complete unit with 2night lights an 2 xt5 lights in the unit. Will this me enough.

    hello jakkie:)

welcome to MASA, its great to have you on board:)

with light the depth of the tank (ligh penetration for photosynthesis) is of prime iportance, so give us the dimensions of the tank as well, but that light unit sounds like it will give you ample light.

However certain corals and inverst require brighter lights than others so you need to make sure that there will be enough light depending on the cretures you want to keep :)

how long have you had a tank? what else do you have with the tank?

welcome to masa and happy postings:)

Welcome to MASA Jakkie, glad you joined us. Please read the link in my signature for great info on how to set up marines tanks. If this is your first tank, look at other member's systems and setups to pick up tips on how things are placed for easy maintenance etc, so that you won't make the same silly little mistakes we made :whistling:
Don't be shy to post some pics of the new setup ;)

Hi thanks. The tank dimensions is as follow. It is a corner unit 90cm x 90cm the front panel is 70.7 cm and the height is 60cm. I am going to place all my soft corals that I have in and small tank at the moment in the new tank. I have also a few friendly fish like nemo, dory etc. The guy that's building the tank said the light is enough, but my hubby read some place that you need to have 1 watt for each gallon, that is why I am concerned.

with a tank that size and a water depth of around 50-55cm i would say that the light unit you have is more than adequate for now. I would hestitate in going for really strong light loving corals (typicaly the sps's and annenomies) but for lps and softies i would say you are all set:)

PS neil raises a very debatable point, i wouldnt take his advice on it! :)
