This cube reef from Singapore comes awfully close to a flow destroying, detritus collecting rock wall but overall the system looks great and is more than worth checking out. At roughly 24 inches cubed (65cm^3) this square aquarium is far from a nano system, but J’Field’s many nano fish and small corals give this system much of an upscale nano feel. The collection of cute corals is dominated by zoanthids, mushrooms, torch corals, clove polyps along with a bunch of beginner corals we all love. Combined with the many small fish the corals add up to an awesome system. Keep reading for the juicy details and more pictures.

The 60-ish gallon aquarium is lit by eight T5 HO fluorescent lamps in a combination of two Aqua Blue Special T5 bulbs, two Blue Plus T5 bulbs, two Actinic bulbs, and two Pro Color bulbs. Flow within the aquarium is provided by an Atman 6000l/h return pump teed-off to fit two Hydroflo eductors,* along with three Hydro Nano pumps on a wavemakers. A Deltec APF600 skimmer along with a Skimz-150 reactor filled with Sorb4 phosphate remover keep the tank clean. A 1/4 hp Haliea HC-500A chiller keeps system temperatures in check throughout the hot Singapore weather.

We’re especially digging how the corals are grouped in this aquarium with all the zoanthids together, most of the clams together, the ricordea all living int eh same neighbordhood and so on. This kind of coral aggregation doesn’t just help to make for a more visually striking composition by juxtaposing similar and dissimilar looking corals, it also helps to ensure that every major “coral” group is in the best ecozone possible. Overall J’Field has created a beautiful aquascape with some pretty commonly available corals as powerful design elements and he gets two thumbs up for aquascaping.
